The Institute for Basic Science (IBS) is a national research institute established under Article 14 of the Special Act on the Establishment and Support of the International Science and Business Belt. Its mission is to secure creative knowledge and fundamental technologies through world-class basic science research.

The Axion Dark Matter Group (DMAG), located at the KAIST Munji Campus in Daejeon, conducts advanced experimental research to search for axions, one of the most promising candidates for dark matter. Through innovative instrumentation and precision measurement techniques, DMAG aims to deepen our understanding of the universe and contribute to the global effort in unveiling the nature of dark matter.

[General qualifications]

Must be in compliance with the requirements for appointments as specified in Article 33 of the State Public Officials Act and IBS statutes.

Expected Appointment Date

April 16, 2026

The appointment date can be negotiable up July 16th, 2026. However, if you are unable to start by July 16th, 2026, the appointment may be canceled.

(Senior researcher) Applicants who are scheduled to obtain their doctoral degree after April 16th, 2026 are not eligible to apply.

(Postdoctoral Research Associate) Applicants who are scheduled to obtain their doctoral degree after July 16th, 2026 are not eligible to apply. Earlier employment may be possible if the applicant meets the required qualifications. (Applicants who are expected to obtain their degree within three months from the actual appointment date.)

Recruitment schedule is subject to change.

Reserve candidates may be selected within twice the number of positions available, and their eligibility will be valid for up to three months from the earlier of the scheduled appointment date or the final candidate’s start date.

Research Position

(Senior Researcher) Appointment is initially for a fixed term and renewable once, with a maximum total term of up to 5 years.

(Postdoctoral Research Associate) Conduct research while at the same time receiving postdoctoral training for a certain period of time to deepen their understanding of a field and develop a distinctive research capability. Available for individuals who are within the first five years after obtaining their Ph.D. or to be obtained within 3 months from the appointment start date. Employment can be renewed only once and the total appointed term is up to 3 years

In case of the Center’s closure during employment, the employment contract will be terminated accordingly

Salary

 In accordance with the institute’s internal regulations (Pay-band system applied).
