Director CHUNG Yeonseok
Professor CHUNG Yeonseok is a globally recognized immunologist whose research focuses on the mechanisms regulating immune cell differentiation and function. His work spans a broad spectrum of diseases, including infectious diseases, allergies, autoimmune disorders, and cancer. He earned his Ph.D. from the College of Pharmacy at Seoul National University and subsequently completed postdoctoral training at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in the United States, where he strengthened his expertise in tumor immunology and T cell immune regulation. He later served as an Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. He is currently a Professor at the College of Pharmacy, Seoul National University, where he has led cutting-edge research in immunology.
The Center for Viral Immunology systematically investigates the regulatory mechanisms governing immune cell responses to viral infections and tissue-specific immune responses. With a particular focus on immune aging, the Center serves as a research hub for understanding the pathogenesis of viral infectious diseases and for developing immune-based therapeutic strategies.
By studying immune responses to viruses and the immunopathological mechanisms of viral diseases, the Center aims to build a knowledge base to prepare for future emerging viral threats.
