In 1999, Dr. Floyd discovers a tall black slab "monolith" at the back of the Moon. After finding out that the slab sends signals to Jupiter, he sends the spacecraft Discovery One to decode the signals. On board are five mission pilots and an artificial intelligence computer; HAL 9000. The pilots need to deal with not only the mysteriouis slab but HAL 9000 showing suspious and concerning behavior.
