IBS, 생명과학 분야 국제 학술행사 연달아 개최

기초과학연구원(IBS, 원장 노도영)은 생명과학 분야 국내외 최고 석학을 초빙하여 IBS 콘퍼런스를 개최한다. 인지 및 사회성 연구단(단장 이창준)과 시냅스 뇌질환 연구단(단장 김은준), 뇌과학 이미징 연구단(단장 김성기)이 공동 주관하는 ‘IBS 뇌과학 콘퍼런스(IBS Conference on Brain Science)’는 11월 4~5일 대전 IBS 과학문화센터에서, 나노의학 연구단(단장 천진우)이 연세대와 공동 주관하는 ‘IBS 생명공학과 의학을 위한 나노머신 콘퍼런스(IBS Conference on Nanomachines for Biotechnology and Medicine)’는 11월 8~9일 서울 더플라자호텔과 연세대 IBS관에서 열린다.

IBS는 글로벌 연구협력 네트워크를 견고히 하고, 수월적 연구 성과 창출 기반을 마련하기 위해 2013년부터 총 34회의 IBS 콘퍼런스를 개최해왔다. 올해 하반기에는 생명과학의 다양한 영역을 아우르는 국제 학술행사 개최를 통해 코로나19 팬데믹 위기로 침체된 학회 분위기를 활성화하고, 연구 협력 분위기를 강화할 계획이다. 국제사회의 생명과학 기술과 연구에 대한 관심이 그 어느 때보다 큰 상황에서, IBS 콘퍼런스는 다자간 공동 연구를 촉진하고 대중과 소통할 수 있는 기회의 장이 될 것으로 기대된다.

IBS 뇌과학 콘퍼런스에는 메이켄 네더가드(Maiken Nedergaard) 미국 로체스터대 메디컬 센터 교수, 모건 셩(Morgan Sheng) 미국 매사츄세츠공대(MIT) 교수 등 뇌과학 분야 세계적 석학 20여 명이 연사로 참가하여 최신 연구를 공유한다. 특히, 신경세포와 교세포 간 상호작용을 주제로 최신 연구동향, 관련 분야 정보 교류 및 공동 연구 분야 등을 발굴할 예정이다.

IBS 생명공학과 의학을 위한 나노머신¹⁾ 콘퍼런스에는 브래들리 넬슨(Bradley J. Nelson) 스위스 연방공대 교수, 데이비드 그라시아스(David Gracias) 미국 존스홉킨스대 교수 등 마이크로 나노 분야 최고 수준의 세계 석학 10여 명이 연사로 참가한다. 의료용 나노머신 분야의 권위자들이 한 자리에 모이는 만큼, 최신 연구 동향을 한 눈에 파악할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

노도영 IBS 원장은 “단계적 일상회복(위드 코로나)이 시행되는 상황에서, 이번 IBS 콘퍼런스는 팬데믹 대유행 기간 동안 닫혔던 국경이 열리고, 연구협력이 다시 활성화된다는 남다른 의미를 지닌다”며 “생명과학 연구와 기술 발전의 중요성을 인식하고 다자간 협력이 촉진되는 계기가 되길 바란다”고 말했다.
