The Institute for Basic Science (IBS) is a national research institute established in accordance with Article 14 of the “Special Act on Establishment of and Support for International Science and Business Belts”. IBS aims to discover creative knowledge and secure original technologies through world-class basic science research. The IBS Center for Multidimensional Carbon Materials invites creative and dynamic candidates who will help us to achieve our goals.

[Position Description]
  • 1. Senior Researcher: Earned a doctoral degree and have excellent research outcomes and competence in their field. Reappointment after its initial appointment is doable within the total appointment of 5 years.
  • 2. Postdoctoral Research Associate: Earned a doctoral degree and the degree has not passed 5 years since they earned their doctoral degree as of the (expected) appointment date or expected to earn a doctoral degree within 3 month as of the (expected) appointment date. This position is to receive training and conduct research at a Center for a fixed period to deepen their knowledge in their field and increase creativity in research. Reappointment after its initial appointment is doable within the total appointment of 3 years.
  • 3. Research Engineer: those who directly participate in research conducted by a Center, and perform research engineering tasks necessary for specific research, such as experiments, measurements, tests, data analyses, program development and computer simulations. Reappointment (such contract will be singed every 2 year) up until the Center closes after 2-year initial contract is doable if deemed successful through “Employment renewal review of research engineers”.

□ General Qualifications and Preferences

  • ▪Those who are qualified under Article 33 of the State Public Officials Act and IBS regulations.
  • ▪hose who do not fall under Article 82 of the Act on Anti-corruption and the Establishment and Operation of the Anti-corruption & Civil Rights Commission.
  • ▪Those who are permitted to travel abroad, and/or completed mandatory military service or are exempted from such service.
  • ▪Those who meet the requirements by the end of the application deadline.

  • ▪Additional points to each screening stage for persons with disabilities under Article 3 and 4 of the Enforcement Decree of the Act on the Employment Promotion and Vocational Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities, or persons eligible for employment assistance under Article 29 of the Act on the Honorable Treatment of and Support for Persons, ETC. of Distinguished Service to the State.
    -5 additional points for those who submit the certificate of disabilities.

▪(Screening Method) Based on the candidate’s average points drawn from all panel members, select applicants within three times the number of candidates than the opening for the next stage, candidates shall be selected in the highest average scores order (minimum average score: 80). Yet if candidates who have the same average score, they also will be deemed as candidates for the interview stage.

Contract ▪ (Senior Researcher) Reappointment once after initial contract available; the total contract period is up to 5 years.
▪ (Postdoctoral Research Associate) Contract renewal after initial contract is available; the total contract period is up to 3 years. The performance review rating upon initial contract should be more than 80 for reappointment.
▪ (Research Engineer) Reappointment every 2-year up until the Center closes; if deemed successful through “Employment renewal review of research engineers”, after 2-year initial contract.
※The employment contract will be maintained until the abolition of the Center, if the Center is determined to be abolished during the contract period.
