Institute for Basic Science (IBS) is a national research institute established in accordance with Article 14 of the Special Act on Establishment of and Support for International Science and Business Belts. IBS aims to discover creative knowledge and secure original technologies through world-class basic science research.

Center for Vascular Research, led by Director Gou Young KOH, is dedicated to achieving groundbreaking discoveries, conceptual advances, and paradigm shifts in vascular biology through fundamental research. The center's primary focus includes gaining a deeper understanding of "organotypic" endothelial cell heterogeneity, angiogenesis, lymphangiogenesis, cardiogenesis, vascular remodeling, and vascular niche.

Center for Synaptic Brain Dysfunctions, led by Director Eunjoon KIM, investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying the formation, differentiation, maintenance, and dynamic plasticity of neuronal synapses.

The research focus of Center for Catalytic Hydrocarbon Functionalizations, led by Director Sukbok CHANG, is committed to the development of catalytic C-H functionalizations. The center aims to comprehend mechanistic details and explore practical applications in this field.

Center for Advanced Reaction Dynamic, led by Director Hyotcherl LHEE, conducts in-depth research on the mechanisms of various chemical and biological reactions. The center focuses on understanding kinetics, particularly the ultrafast structural dynamics of reactions, and endeavors to develop new time-resolved experimental techniques and data analysis methods.
