The Institute for Basic Science (IBS) held a farewell ceremony for its 3rd President, NOH Do Young, on November 20, 2025. The event marked the 14th anniversary of IBS’s founding and was organized to reflect on President Noh’s achievements during his tenure and to express gratitude for his dedication and leadership.

During his term, President Noh made significant contributions to strengthening IBS’s research competitiveness and enhancing its international standing. He consistently emphasized the long-term value of basic science and worked to establish a stable research environment and a researcher-centered research culture. In addition, by expanding collaboration with domestic and international research institutions, he laid the groundwork for IBS to grow into a world-class institute for basic science.

IBS members attended the ceremony to honor President Noh’s efforts and accomplishments. The event featured a commemorative video reviewing his tenure, the presentation of a plaque of appreciation, and farewell remarks delivered by colleagues and junior researchers, creating a meaningful and reflective occasion.

In his farewell address, President Noh stated,
“The six years I spent at IBS were a deeply fulfilling and inspiring time, working alongside leading scholars in basic science to advance the nation’s scientific future. All IBS researchers and staff must carry a sense of mission to build a basic science institute that opens a sustainable future for the country through new discoveries. I sincerely hope for IBS’s continued challenges and growth.”
