IBS Center for Exotic Nuclear Studies launched
The IBS Center for Exotic Nuclear Studies kicked off research at the IBS headquarters on December 16, 2019. Prof. HAHN Kevin Insik of Ewha Woman’s University has been appointed as the Director of the Center for Exotic Nuclear Studies. Director Hahn is a world-renowned expert in the field of nuclear physics and nuclear astrophysics. Prior to coming to IBS, he carried out many important experiments at the world's leading research institutes, such as Yale University, Caltech, and RIKEN (Japan). For the past 20 years, he has worked in experimental nuclear physics, as a faculty member at Ewha Woman’s University. Director Hahn said, “We plan to research to determine the origin of cosmic elements, such as the process of generating heavy elements and the discovery of new rare isotopes.” He added that the IBS “will lay the foundation for domestic research and conduct universally recognized research, although Korea is a latecomer in nuclear physics.” |
