Dr. Hyeontae Jo (Senior Researchers) have joined our group on February 16, 2021.
Dr. Hyeontae Jo received his math Ph.D. from POSTECH and has been a postdoctoral researcher at Basic Science Research Institute, POSTECH. He has researched differential equations and Machine learning.
KAIST, IBS, 고려대구로병원 등 공동연구팀이 코로나19 바이러스의 전파율이 높으면 중증화율이 낮아져 토착화를 앞당긴다는 연구결과를 발표했다. KAIST 수리과학과의 김재경 교수(IBS 의생명수학그룹 연구책임자)와 홍혁표 석박사통합과정 연구원, 노지윤 고려대구로병원 감염내과 교수, 신의철 KAIST 의과학대학원 교수 (IBS 한국바이러스기초연구소 바이러스면역연구센터장) 연구팀은 수리 모델을 통해 바이러스 전파율이 올라가면 궁극적으로 코로나19 위중증화율이 떨어진다는 사실을 확인했다고 14일 밝혔다.
Researchers from KAIST, IBS, Korea University Guro Hospital, etc., revealed that high viral transmission unexpectedly accelerates the endemic transition of COVID-19 with reduced numbers of severe cases. On February 14th, a research team including Jae Kyoung Kim (principal investigator of the BIMAG, IBS), Hyukpyo Hong (Ph.D. student), Ji Yun Noh (professor of Korea University Guro Hospital), and Eui-Cheol Shin (professor of KAIST Graduate School of Medical Science and Engineering), said that they demonstrated high viral transmission of COVID-19 paradoxically reduces the rates of progression to severe COVID-19 and accelerates the endemic transition, based on mathematical modeling.

On 4 February 2022, Minhye Kim, a graduate student studying under the supervision of Prof. Yongkuk Kim, from Kyungpook national university joined our group as a visiting student. She will stay until 28 February 2022.

On 20 January 2022, Professor Hang Joon Kim from the Division of Statistics and Data Science, University of Cincinnati joined our group as a visiting scholar. He will stay until Aug. 2022.
Jae Kyoung Kim presented at the 4th brain research forum for the future, hosted by KBRI, KOFST, and KAST. The title of his talk was ‘A beautiful encounter of mathematics and brain science: from diagnosis to treatment’.
김재경 교수가 한국뇌연구원, 한국과학기술단체총연합회, 한국과학기술한림원에서 주최하는 ‘제4회 내일을 준비하는 뇌연구 공동 포럼’에서 ‘수학과 뇌과학의 아름다운 만남: 진단부터 치료까지’라는 제목으로 강연을 진행했습니다.
From December 16 to 18, BIMAG members participated in KSMB annual meeting and presented our research as an invited talk (Prof. Jae Kyoung Kim) and posters (Dr. Hyun Kim, Dr. Aurelio de los Reyes V, Dr. Bryan Hernandez, Seokjoo Chae, Hyukpyo Hong, Yun Min Song, Seho Park).

From December 2 to 5, BIMAG members participated in KSIAM annual meeting and presented our research at special session (Prof. Jae Kyoung Kim, Dr. Hyun Kim), general session (Dr. Aurelio de los Reyes V, Dr. Bryan Hernandez, Eui Min Jeong), and poster session (Seokjoo Chae, Hyukpyo Hong, Yun Min Song, Seho Park, Seokmin Ha).

CI Jae Kyoung Kim won ‘올해의 최석정상.’
‘올해의 최석정상’ (Choi Seok-jeong award in this year) is named after Choi, Seok-jeong who was a Korean politician and mathematician in the Joseon period of Korea. This award was established 2021 to give mathematicians credit for developing and applying mathematics or spreading mathematics culture.
On 19 Nov 2021, researchers from Samsung Medical Center and Sungshin Women’s Univ. visited IBS BIMAG. We discussed our research projects.
