IBS Biomedical Mathematics Group (BIMAG) is one of the research groups in the Center for Mathematical and Computational Sciences, led by its Chief Investigator Jae Kyoung Kim. Established on March 2021, BIMAG aims to carry out top-class research in the field of biological and medical mathematics. BIMAG is located in the IBS HQ, Daejeon.
BIMAG consists of three research teams.
- Intracellular dynamics team aims for the development of reduction methods for multi-scale systems and its application to identify molecular mechanisms underlying enzyme kinetics, cancer Immunotherapy and biological oscillators.
- Intercellular dynamics team aims for the development of inference methods for dynamic cellular networks and its application to biological oscillatory networks.
- Systemic dynamics team aims for the development of digital medicine for sleep disorders and cancer based on health wearable devices.
BIMAG will organize regular international workshops and seminars and short-term and long-term visiting programs. BIMAG will be a great place for researchers to perform exciting research, collaborate with biologists and doctors, and meet wonderful researchers from all over the world.
The programs currently available for researchers at BIMAG include:
- We have invited researchers around the world for online colloquium to learn and to discuss each other’s research.
- Every Friday, through the Journal Club, we have time to learn new methodologies in various fields such as machine learning, statistics, mathematics, and physics. We aim to learn ~50 new methods every year.
- Because researchers from various fields such as biology, statistics, and mathematics are visiting BIMAG for sabbaticals, we are learning from each other and conducting convergence research together.
- We are currently collaborate with ~30 research groups around the world and visit each other.
- We have participated in the national and international conferences nearly every quarter.
- We have arragned the meeting with the experts in science writing and science communications.
기초과학연구원 의생명수학그룹 (Biomedical Mathematics Group, BIMAG)은 수리 및 계산 과학 연구단 내에 속한 연구 그룹 중 하나로, 김재경 CI가 책임을 맡고 있습니다. 2021년 3월에 설립된 BIMAG은 의생명수학 분야 최고 수준의 연구를 하는 것을 목표로 하고 있습니다. BIMAG은 대전 IBS 본원에 위치하고 있습니다.
BIMAG은 세 개의 연구 팀으로 구성되어 있습니다.
- Intracelluar dynamics 팀은 Multi-scale 시스템의 단순화 방법 이론 개발 및 이를 적용하여 효소 반응, 항암 면역치료, 생물학적 Oscillator 의 분자 기제를 밝히는 것을 목표로 합니다.
- Intercellular dynamics 팀은 다이내믹한 세포간 네트워크 추정 방법을 개발하고 이를 바탕으로 다양한 biological oscillators의 네트워크를 규명하는 것을 목표로 하고 있습니다.
- Systemic dynamics team은 수면 질환을 치료할 수 있는 Health wearable 장치 기반 Digital medicine을 개발하는 것을 목표로 하고 있습니다.
BIMAG는 다양한 수학 바이오 및 의학 주제를 다루는 정기적 인 국제 워크숍 및 세미나를 조직하고 방문 연구 프로그램을 운영하고 있고, 연구자들이 흥미 진진한 연구를 수행하고, 생명과학자 및 의사와 협력하고, 전 세계의 훌륭한 연구자들을 만날 수 있는 국제적 허브가 될 것입니다.
BIMAG에서 연구자들을 위해서 현재 제공되는 프로그램은 다음과 같습니다.
- 봄과 가을에 온라인 콜로퀴움을 통해서 전세계 연구자들의 강연을 듣고 서로의 연구를 소개하는 시간을 가지고 있습니다.
- 매주 금요일 Journal Club 세미나를 통해서 기계학습, 통계, 수학, 물리 등 다양한 분야의 방법론을 배우는 시간을 가지고 있습니다. 일년에 50여가지 새로운 방법론을 배우고 있습니다.
- 통계, 생명과학, 수학 등 다양한 분야의 연구자들이 BIMAG에서 연구년으로 방문하고 있어, 서로 배우며 융합연구를 진행하고 있습니다.
- 전세계 30여명의 공동연구자들과 공동연구를 진행하고 상호 방문을 할 수 있습니다.
- 분기에 한번씩은 워크샵 혹은 학회에 참석하고 있습니다.
- 과학 글쓰기 전문가, 과학 커뮤니케이터 전문가와 미팅 및 비전 워크샵을 통해서 연구자로서 성장하는데 필요한 다양한 경험을 쌓고 있습니다.
