Apartments (Flats)

Apartments are the most popular housing option among Koreans. Apartments are also preferred by most other residents in Korea because they are convenient. Basic utilities such as water, gas, and heating are well established. Nearly all complexes are located near facilities and offer easy access to public transportation. Drawbacks to living in apartments include distracting noise levels. Residents share parking areas in apartment buildings. Thus, you might have difficulty parking your car because of the narrow size of parking spaces provided by old apartments.

Officetels (Efficiency apartments)

The term, officetels, was originally used to describe offices furnished with minimal residential facilities. Recently, these spaces have increasingly been used for residential purposes. They are preferred by unmarried workers. They are designed to protect people’s privacy. These spaces are situated in places with easy access to public transportation.
The rooms are furnished with necessary furniture and amenities even though rooms are rather small.

One room (One-room apartments)

One-room units are similar to officetels except they are smaller. One-room units are a cost-saving alternative to officetels. Many are located near universities, organizations, or institutes.

* Methods Used to Measure Space Although the official unit of measurement for housing or office spaces in Korea is the square meter, the unit, "pyeong," may also be used. One "pyeong" is equivalent to approximately 3.3 square meters. Prices vary depending on the location and size of each apartment complex.
