POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS
IN COMPUTATIONAL SOCIAL SCIENCE, IBS
The IBS Data Science Group in Daejeon, South Korea invites applications for several
postdoctoral research fellowship positions. The expected start date is the 1st of September 2019 but it can be negotiated; but the candidate should have a Ph.D. by the start date.
Data Science Group is a new research group that was established in December 1, 2018 at
the Institute for Basic Science (IBS), led by Prof. Meeyoung Cha. Data Science Group is
located at the headquarters of the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) in Daejeon, South Korea, a city of 1.5 million people.
We seeks a talented, highly motivated researcher with a background in data science.
Successful candidates for postdoctoral research fellowship positions will be new or recent Ph.D.’s with outstanding research potential in all fields of computational social science, which is the study of social phenomena using the intersection of computer science, statistics, and social science . Also, we will strive to advance the data science research field via developing new ways of computing using machine learning and deep learning methods to analyze real-world data about society. Projects leverage a large-scale dataset, applying methods and theory from sociology, behavioral science, network science, econometrics, data science, and machine learning.
Preferences
- 1. Excellent knowledge and skills in social network analysis, machine learning,
statistical analysis, and computational simulation.
- 2. Analyze large-scale datasets using tools from deep learning and machine learning.
- 3. Proficiency in computer programming using major programming languages
(e.g., high-level languages commonly used in the scientific community such as
Python, R and Scala, related machine learning and deep learning tools such as PyTorch, TensorFlow and scikit-learn)
- 4. Strong knowledge in social and behavioral disciplines.
- 5. Effective communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
research fellows will have no teaching duties.
Position Minimum Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. (or receive it soon) from an accredited
university in a relevant discipline, such as computer science, statistics, information systems, computational social sciences, computational simulation, or a closely related discipline. Ph.D. must be completed by the start of the appointment.
The position and Remuneration:
These non-tenure-track appointments are for 2 or 3 years, and the starting salary is no less than KRW 57,000,000. The appointment is one time renewable up to 5 years in total contingent upon the outstanding performance of the researcher. Low cost economy flight will be provided for accepted applicants.
