Tenure Track Research Fellow Positions
at Center for Relativistic Laser Science, IBS
The Center for Relativistic Laser Science (CoReLS) of Institute for Basic Science (IBS) in Korea invites outstanding researchers for four tenure-track research fellow positions in the areas of laser-matter interactions at ultrahigh laser intensity and attosecond science. CoReLS was established in 2012 to explore novel physical phenomena occurring in the ultrahigh and relativistic laser intensity regime using the state-of-the-art petawatt laser facility in Gwangju, Korea. CoReLS is currently conducting several scientific projects including the following subjects:
- Development of multi-petawatt lasers
- Physics of superintense laser-matter interactions
- Laser-driven electron and ion acceleration
- Attosecond pulse generation and characterization
- Ultrafast electron dynamics in atom, molecule, nanostructure and plasma
- Laboratory astrophysics
- Strong field quantum electrodynamics (QED) including nonlinear Compton scattering, radiation reaction and photon-photon interactions.
Four tenure-track positions are available in laser plasma physics and attosecond science. Three positions are open in the area of on experimental/theoretical laser plasma physics. Preference will be given for candidates with strong research backgrounds on laser-driven electron acceleration and strong field QED, including particle-in-cell (PIC) simulation in the case of plasma theory. The other position is open for the research on theoretical attosecond science. The candidates should be able to carry out the research projects at CoReLS, while closely collaborating with other researchers. The initial contract is up to 5 years and it can be extended for 2 more years. The tenure evaluation will be conducted within this period.
Requirements:
- Ph. D. in plasma physics, strong field physics, atomic and molecular physics and ultrafast optics.
- More than five years of research experience after Ph. D. In case of superb research performance less experienced candidates will be also considered.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
Applications should be submitted to Ms. Young Jae Park (corels@ibs.re.kr) by Feb. 22, 2019. Please include CV with the full publication list and 3 names of reference, for recommendation letters, and brief description of research experience and research plan (one page). After the evaluation of the submitted documents, selected applicants may be interviewed. Further information about CoReLS can be obtained from the CoReLS website (https://corels.ibs.re.kr) or by an e-mail request (corels@ibs.re.kr).
