Underground Research Facilities to Explore the Origin of the Universe

IBS Center for Underground Physics will complete construction of a 1,100 m deep underground facility by 2019 in a mine in Jeongseon County, Gangwon Province. The new facility will be up to five times more likely to detect dark matter compared to other facilities. Since it is 400 m deeper than the Yangyang laboratory, the IBS facility is expected to block cosmic rays more effectively and enhance detection sensitivity to a world best level.
