■ Purpose

The Center for Artificial Low Dimensional Electronic Systems (CALDES) at the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) in Pohang, Korea is seeking one tenure track research fellow to conduct research in the fields of scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) for novel classes of low dimensional electronic systems such as atomic wires, atomic layers, 2D topological materials, and layered materials. The CALDES, led by Prof. Han Woong Yeom, is a collaborative nanoscience research center belonging to IBS, a newly established national research institute to lead the top notch basic science research of Korea.

■ Major Duties / Responsibilities

• - Perform cross-cutting research collaboration with physicists, synthetic chemists, and materials scientists
• - Conduct experiments using STM
• - Participate in developing instrumentations such as ultra low temperature STM or spin-resolved STM

■ Qualifications required

A PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science or a closely related science discipline, completing all degree requirements before starting their appointment, is required. A successful candidate is expected to possess background in STM ideally with experience in instrumentation. The incumbent should have good interpersonal, communication and presentation skills in order to interact and work effectively with a multi-disciplinary team. Possession of a strong record of productive and creative research demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific conference would be a plus.

■ Appointment period & Salary

The appointment is a full time tenure-track contract. The tenure evaluation will be made within six years. Starting salary ranges between $70,000 and $ 80,000.
