IBS invites applicants for the position of Associate Director who are senior-level researchers with high research potentials, and are able to run his or her own research group in collaboration with the directors within their Research Centers.

1. Introduction of the research center

  The thalamocortical circuit is a key component in regulating consciousness and cognition. We are trying to understand how the circuit controls the brain functions, with a focus on the network interaction among various brain regions. We are particularly interested in how different firing modes of diverse thalamic nuclei control brain activities. We use a variety of tools in addition to genetically-modified mice to understand the mechanism comprehensively, from molecules to behaviors. Knowledge obtained from such studies will provide better understanding of sleep disorders, absence seizures, and impaired learning/memory. Current interests include observational fear learning by empathy, and impaired fear extinction.

We are much interested in elucidating signaling mechanisms and cellular functions in neuronal cells, through various bio-imaging and optogenetics techniques. We believe that novel bio-imaging and optogenetics technologies will lead to groundbreaking discoveries in biology. We are currently working on understanding essential mechanisms at the molecular/cellular levels by visualizing and manipulating the complex signaling pathways in live cells and mouse models.

2. Job description

Associate Director of Bio-imaging and Optogenetics Group

-          The candidates are expected to have strong research background and experience in visualization of cellular signaling (signaling proteins and second messengers) in mammalian cells using diverse bio-imaging technologies.

-          The candidates must have strong background in handling diverse bio-imaging instruments (point scanning and spinning disk confocal, TIRF and high-throughput imaging system).

-          The candidates must have long experience in developing novel imaging technologies (protein-protein interactions and biosensors).

-          The candidates must have long experience in developing novel optogenetics technologies and utilizing them in cellular and mouse models.

3. Requirements for the position

-          The candidates must be able to commit themselves completely to IBS research activities in the long term.

-          The candidates must be able to manage their respective research groups.

-          The candidate should be recognized as one of the leaders internationally in the field of Bio-imaging and Optogenetics.

4. Offer
