Overview

The Center for Genomic Integrity (CGI) of Institute of Basic Science (IBS) at UNIST in Ulsan, Korea invites applications for post-doctoral research associates. The successful applicant will conduct research in the newly established chemical and cancer biology branch headed by Prof. Orlando Scharer on mammalian DNA repair pathways and their connection to carcinogenesis and anti-cancer therapy. CGI is a recently established research center belonging to IBS, a newly established national research institute to enable top notch basic science research of Korea, and aims to be one of the leading institutes in the world in the area of DNA repair and genomic integrity.

Description

The successful candidate will perform active research on one of the ongoing or new projects on human DNA repair pathways, including: 1) Molecular mechanisms and regulation of nucleotide excision repair, 2) Structure/function relationships of DNA interstrand crosslink repair and 3) Pathway-specific characterization and inhibition of DNA repair. We offer significant resources to conduct research, access to state of the art cores and technical support and an intellectually stimulating environment. Our research is intrinsically interdisciplinary and employs biochemistry, chemical, molecular, structural, cellular and cancer biology, as well as organic chemistry. Qualifications

• - Ph. D. in biochemistry, cell biology, organic chemistry or closely related field.
• - Research experience in one of the following areas: biochemistry, chemical, molecular, structural and cell biology or organic synthesis.
• - Strong record of productive and creative research demonstrated by publications in peer-reviewed journals and presentations at scientific conferences.
• - Highly motivated to conduct top level research, good English oral and written communication skills
• - Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Appointment Period and Salary

The initial appointment will be for one year with possibility of extension of up to a total of five years. Starting salary ranges between $ 40,000 and $50,000 per year depending on qualifications and experience.
