IBS invites applications for the positions of Associate Directors who are senior-level researchers with high research potentials, running own research group in collaboration with the directors within their Research Centers
1. Introduction of the research center The Center for Neuroscience Imaging Research (CNIR) at Sungkyunkwan University in Korea is recently created under the roof of Institute of Basic Science (IBS), which is established mainly to boost basic science research in Korea. The CNIR focuses on systems neuroscience research with high-tech neuroimaging for enhancing synergetic, multi-modal, multidisciplinary, creative basic research activities. Highly integrative, open research environment is expected. The CNIR will have multiple inter-related research groups, including i) MR Physics and Neural Engineering, ii) Neurovascular Coupling at System and Molecular Levels, iii) Human Cognitive Mapping, iv) Primate Systems Neuroscience, and v) Computational Neuroscience and Neural Imaging Data Analysis. The new CNIR building with ~4,000 square meters will be completed at July of 2015 and will have core facilities including two animal and two human MRI systems, two-photon and confocal microscopes, computer cluster, electronic and machine shop, histology, and rodent and non-human primate animal housing. 2. Job description The Associate Director is expected to perform first-rate independent research, collaborate actively within the Center, and involve teaching. The Associate Director is responsible for all research-related works in his/her group, which include allocating the research fund, recruiting researchers, and mentoring junior scientists. In each group, 1-2 sub-groups led by Assistant or Associate Professor may be added for creating synergistic and collaborative research programs. It is also expected to perform intramural collaborative research with the utility of in vivo imaging tools. Since the Associate Director will be a tenured faculty of Sungkyunkwan University, class teaching is required at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
3. Requirements for the position - All candidates must be able to commit themselves completely in the long-term to IBS research activities. - All candidates must be recognized scientists in their research field. - All candidates must be able to manage their respective research groups - All candidates must seek close collaborations among groups in the Center to have synergistic research impacts - All the candidates must be able to communicate with English
