Founded in November 2011 by the South Korean government, the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) supports basic research within the entire range of natural sciences including physics, life science, chemistry, mathematics, earth science, and astronomy by providing highly advanced, supportive, self-directed research environments.

IBS invites applications for the positions of Associate Directors who are senior-level researchers with high research potentials, running own research group in collaboration with the directors within their Research Centers.

1. Introduction of the research center

The Center for Theoretical Physics of Complex Systems will conduct research on nonlinear classical and quantum dynamics of nano-structured systems, and on the interface of applied and computational theoretical condensed matter physics and optics.

2. Job description

∙ The successful candidate will develop a vigorous own research program at the highest levels including intense and active international collaborations.

∙ The successful candidate will head a research group as part of the center, and supervise student group members.

∙ The successful candidate will assist the director in heading an active Visitors Program which includes a high level workshop program.

∙ The successful candidate will assist the director in all center related research matters.

3. Requirements for the position

∙ All candidates must be able to commit themselves completely in the long-term to IBS research activities.

∙ All candidates must be able to manage their respective research groups.

∙ The successful candidate has demonstrated a strong research and publication track record in the advertised areas.

∙ The successful candidate has demonstrated experience and strong skills in international networking and collaborations, including the organization of international meetings and conferences.

∙ The successful candidate has demonstrated the ability to efficiently supervise students in the abovementioned research areas.
